6 Ways to Authentically Grow Your Audience

As a small business owner, it can be hard to know how to go about authentically growing your audience. Growing an audience takes time, but with the right strategies, you can start to see results quickly and make a lasting impression. Here are 6 tips on how to authentically grow your audience.

I. Create a brand that is based on your values

When you have a brand that is based on your values, your audience will trust you and be more likely to stick around. When you stay true to your values, it shows in your content and your interactions with your audience, which can help you build trust. I have some specific tips on finding your values in this blog post, but you can also take a look at this extensive list and choose 3-4 words that really resonate with your brand and your offerings.

II. Share what’s inspiring you

If it comes naturally to you or feels easy, you might think it’s not worth sharing with others, but that’s exactly what you need to share. Your gifts, talents, and expertise, likely come very easily to you but they might not to someone else. Sharing what inspires you or what you are working on, thinking about, and dreaming about, could help inspire someone else along their journey and they will crave your content.

III. Stay in your lane

Put your blinders on when it comes to other people’s content. It’s all too easy to fall into the trap of comparing and despairing with social media. If you think that someone else is doing it better than you are, that’s simply not true. Try your best to ignore what other creators are making and just share and create what feels interesting and exciting for you. It would be terribly boring if a million were people making the same thing. Your unique voice is necessary and seeing the way that only you can do something, is far more interesting and engaging for your audience.

IV. Provide value, for free

You can create content in the form of blog posts, reels, video content, or infographics. If blogging isn’t your thing, maybe try a podcast, or a Youtube channel, somewhere you can provide value for free and allow new audience members to get to know you before making a purchase. Your audience will want to get to know, like, and trust you, before they invest in your offerings. Also keep in mind that although showing your face and talking to the camera may be vulnerable, it will immensely help your audience to experience your authentic self.

V. Use Pinterest to your advantage

Pinterest is a great platform for small businesses to share the content they are creating with a wider audience. Bonus, it’s free and its algorithm works much differently than Instagram or TikTok, so your content will continue to be seen months after you’ve posted it. Utilizing tools like Tailwind can help you save time and automate some of the processes involved in growing an audience on Pinterest. Tailwind allows you to schedule posts, create groups to get your content seen by more audiences, and gives you analytic feedback. (See this post to view our top 9 tools for small businesses.)

VI. Create a social media ritual for yourself

Taking a step back and reflecting on your content and interactions can help you stay on track and make sure your content remains true to your values. When you feel better about what you are doing, it is reflected in the world around you.

In Conclusion,

By following these steps, you can start to build an audience that is loyal, engaged, and interested in the content you are creating. Quality is better than quantity. Having 100 super fans who are excited to share your offers with all their friends and family will bring in so much more revenue than thousands of followers who barely invested in what you are creating. Showing up and being seen is not easy, but you’ve got this!
